Held on the first Saturday in May and
the Friday in the week after Bridgwater Carnival in November these
are now the last two remaining Charter Fairs of Wells to be held in
the Market Place. This book is a retrospective resume of the
heritage and tradition of the Charter Fairs and Markets and a social
history of the heart of England’s smallest city; long may the fairs
and markets remain for another 700 years in the Market Place.
