News: January/February 2008

In  January 2003 the owner of Dreamland, Jimmy Godden, announced the closure of Dreamland. The park is to be redeveloped as "leisure boxes, some retail and a supermarket". Joyland Books will provide updates on the campaign to save Dreamland and its internationally-important Scenic Railway ride.

The sale of Dreamland by Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company (MTCRC) to Paigle Properties has now fallen through, according to an article in Tuesday's Thanet Times, meaning that MTCRC is now progressing with its own plans for the site.

Happy birthday to Susan Marsh, who today reaches the grand old age of ?0. Susan has played a huge role in the Campaign, from the Local Plan Inquiry in 2004 to the present day as Secretary of The Dreamland Trust. On Saturday night, Susan held a party in Manchester's Festival Hall with 140 attendees, one of which was Campaign Leader Nick Laister. Centre of attention was Susan's Scenic Railway cake (right). Remembering Nick's surprise back in 2004 when she revealed that she had been on Manchester's legendary Belle Vue Bobs roller coaster (which was located just down the road from the party venue until its demolition in 1971), Susan asked how many attendees at the party had been on the ride. Approximately half of the people in the hall put up their hands! Nick was envious.
