GRAEME CASSIDY'S GREAT YARMOUTH CHRONICLES PAGE 3 OF 7

Once through the turnstile, you walk up a slope and board. The train rolls into a semi-enclosed wooden passage, through a wide, right-hand turn.

Numerous spare trains are visible in the depths of the ride.  Out into the daylight, you ascend a tall lift hill.

Over the first drop...It may not reach the ground, but passengers in the back seat will certainly feel strong weightlessness.

Ascending into a very high right-turn, you are positioned to go into the second drop, parallel to the first. This drop, which dives deep into the ride’s structure, is probably my favourite on any coaster.

Another very high, left-turn leads you into two small drops in quick succession, sending you back up the other end of the coaster and into an enclosed turn.

The coaster’s fifth drop out into the open again is impressively large for so late in the ride.

This coaster has been built with plain different aspirations than many modern rides. It doesn’t want to make you feel sick and it doesn’t particularly try to scare you. What it does is takes you on a journey. It puts a smile on your face. It’s pure enjoyment!

Riding a 'woodie', especially at the seaside, is a superlative experience. The sensation of soaring around a gargantuan wooden structure and plunging into drops can’t be beaten. It is an experience that just can’t be found everywhere, and one that many parks would greatly benefit from.

The Roller Coaster is this old master; a living example of how to do it right, and I feel few are taking any notice…

With big attractions like Roller Coaster, Log Flume, Haunted Mansion and Fun House, as well as back ups like Sky Drop, Disk’O, Twister and the other spinning rides, I feel lucky to have a big amusement park like this nearby. It has some genuinely decent big attractions.

I left the Pleasure Beach.
