BITSoftheBEACH: Convoy

By March 2002, the Vintage Cars had completed their last journey.

The old Log Flume kiosks were being put up to serve the new ride (no waste there then!) and the management were undecided on a name for it...

Autopia was favourite (the ride appeared under this name on park maps in 2002) but Disney were rumoured to be putting a block to this...

Convoy appeared favourite...And Convoy it was, a 200m track complete with electrically powered Eddie Stobart Trucks!

Post 29/5/02 (when the ride was officially opened), Eddie Stobart's Convoy is proving to be a very popular ride judging by the numbers of riders!

The names on the trucks are as follows:

Hannah
Sandi
Queenie
Measha
Phoebe (Although I am sure it is spelt Phebe or something similar on the truck)

Press Release:

"...Breaker, breaker, good buddy, the Eddie Stobart Convoy ride has arrived at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The new family ride is the latest concept from Italian ride manufacturer, Zamperla, and consists of 5 miniature heavy goods vehicles which travel on a 200 metre track.

In a new sponsorship deal with Eddie Stobart Limited, each vehicle is branded in the distinctive Eddie Stobart colours - even down to their individual female names.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach Managing Director, Geoffrey Thompson, said: 'We are delighted that the Eddie Stobart Group is sponsoring the Convoy Ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Convoy is a fun ride for the whole family and the Eddie Stobart branding enhances the ride experience. We hope this is the beginning of a long and happy association between our two companies.'

Edward Stobart, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Eddie Stobart Group, said: 'Blackpool Pleasure Beach has a great tradition for entertaining generations of holidaymakers and as sponsors of the new Eddie Stobart Convoy ride we are delighted to join in the fun and to contribute to the enjoyment of millions of visitors.'

Edward Stobart officially opened the Eddie Stobart Convoy ride on Wednesday May 29th."
