Just For Fun - Amusement Parks of the United Kingdom
A Preview

Amusement parks have been popular the world over since the late 1890s. In the 1950s, theme parks appeared in the United States, and later spread around the world. Luckily, in the United Kingdom, the traditional amusement park still survives and thrives today. This US-produced documentary provides a unique American perspective of Britain's greatest parks.

This film visits nine amusement parks: Dreamland, Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, Joyland, Gulliver's World, Alton Towers, Oakwood, Frontierland, Pleasureland, and the granddaddy of them all, Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Wooden coasters are plentiful, fast and fun. You'll ride the only two surviving scenic railway roller coasters in the UK. You will thrill to the excitement of the wooden Texas Tornado at Morecambe's Frontierland and the Cyclone at Southport Pleasureland. And you will rise to the heights of the awesome Pepsi Max Big One, Europe's tallest and fastest roller coaster. In total, the video presents on-board footage of 12 of Britain's best coasters.

The Crown Jewels of British parks are the historic rides that have all but disappeared from the American scene. In addition to the coasters, this film takes you on board and/or inside some of Britain's other classic vintage rides.

In this film you will see both of the surviving original Noah's Arks (one of which has since been demolished), one of the few surviving Circle Swings and dark rides from as far back as 1904. Fun houses, once a staple of every amusement park in the United States, are also featured. The film ventures deep inside three of Britain's biggest fun houses, one of which has now been demolished.

Ever hear of the legendary Flying Turns? They are gone, but you will ride it in its new incarnation in a British amusement park. The Virginia Reel also lives on in a British park.

In addition to providing general background information about the nine parks, and taking the viewer on a visual tour around the parks, the film focuses in some of the best rides. Thirty-one signature attractions are selected at each park and the film takes the viewer onto the rides so that they can be experienced from the comfort of your armchair.
