This
interesting book is about a man from Australia who performed as a
juggler, strongman, sharpshooter, amongst other things before
turning to magic. He was perhaps the greatest magician of his time
filling theatres around the country and performed with a menagerie
of wild animals. He then turned to circus; he had the largest
tenting circus touring. In his second year Bertram Mills joined him
as a partner as he wanted to learn the ins and outs of a tenting
show. Before then he had his circus in Olympia in London as a winter
circus.
After that disaster struck Carmo
when he tried to tour through the winter. His Circus collapsed under
the weight of snow. Within a week he had a new tent which then
caught fire.
After a while he gave up circus,
returning to magic, although he did return to circus in partnership
with Raymond Toole-Stott for a season. From a 30-room mansion he
ended his days in a poor way.
