From the introduction:
"There are relatively few
scholarly studies of Fairs. Early writers, in general, concerned
themselves with historical origins and Charters. Modern writers, on
the other hand, have concentrated on the rides and shows of the
Steam and Electric Eras. Between the two lies the area of interest
taken up by this booklet. As a pioneering study it attempts to do
little more than bring together all the evidence known to the author
and to analyse it."
