The Weirdest Animals in the World

This drawing refers to that part in the attraction just before you go down the 'Limbo Steps'

"Exit down to ground level past Pig Scene. With access to rear of TV camera."

No evidence of the camera as of today (unless it's so well hidden).

If you look closely at the drawing you can see a sign that states: "Come and see the wild animals. Enter."

Today on this exact spot the sign to the left exists.

There is no evidence of the TV in the following picture as at 2005...Perhaps they were just an idea?

If D Sills was commissioned by Blackpool to produce ideas on paper for the revamp of the Ark then it's as if the Blackpool management refined some of the ideas presented to them...probably due to costs??

**SPOILER**

Who needs a camera to see the 'weirdest animals in the world' when mirrors will do?  :-)

Down to Ground Level

Apologies about the drawings in this section. They are a little too small to make out the details.

Basically the drawing to the left is referring to going down to ground level with angled floors.

You may be able to make out the stairway coming down from the Pig Scene, the rubber hosing strips hanging down from the ceiling and the angled floors.

Just one thing themagiceye loves about Blackpool's Noah's Ark is the amount of times you climb/descend stairs. One moment you can find yourself in complete darkness below the Ark and then next minute you can be walking in daylight amongst the rocks above.

This next corridor has foam pads and "A Gurning Mirror".

The foam pads exist but for gurning mirror see below...

themagiceye thinks there are two of these in the attraction (the other is near the beginning).

Although it looks like the face is convex, it is actually concave(hollow and curved rather than curving outwards).

Moving Stairs and Out to the Rocks

The stairs take you back up into the outside world amongst the rocks where there's a sort of circular board that has colours of the spectrum on it that you can spin around (as at 2005).

The Whale

"Through whale's mouth down moving steps to ground level."

"Possible steam effect" (from whale's 'spout').

No steam effect or moving steps today but this still remains a favourite part of Noah's Ark for themagiceye.

Take a look at the picture to the left and spot the whale from 1922.

The Bottomless Pit

I just wish themagiceye had a better photo of the bottomless pit than the one below...

The Tilted Room with Moving Floor

Anti - clockwise from top right reads:

"U.V. rooms"

"Tilted rooms"

"Normal room lighting changing to UV"

"Striped walls"

"Running up hill water effect" (see picture below)

"Wall lights
Chandeliers
Fireplaces
Foot prints
Picture frame
Mounted animal heads"

"Painted steps towards main front door"

For Ultra Violet read "strobe".

When this effect is working it can prove quite effective. (You cannot get a sense of the water running 'uphill' from the photo unfortunately.)

Towards the Fish Tank

The rubber pipes that are visible in the drawing can be seen in the drawing below.

...And the Fish Tank. This photo was taken in 2004. The tank has been given a bit of a revamp since this was taken.

The L-shaped Fish Tank

Well it isn't 'L-Shaped' but there are definitely fish tanks on view today!

Labelled on the right is "Access door to Fish Tank" and at the top: "Rotating barrel like the one in River Caves to make underwater effects on rocks."

The photo on the left was taken in 2004; in 2005 these no longer exist.
