Julia Midgley was Artist in
Residence at Blackpool Pleasure Beach from 2000 to 2002. This
high quality publication is the result of her stay at the
park. She has captured the essence of the Pleasure Beach, both
in front of and behind the scenes, with her sketchpad.
This book charts Midgley's
residency in the form of a journal, illustrating the nature of
Blackpool Pleasure Beach at the start of a new Century, a rich
tapestry of every imaginable fun day out.
The journal follows Midgley's
exploration of the park, lavishly illustrated with her colour
sketches. From the Launch of the Dipperthon and the new ride
Valhalla, to Midgley's exploration of the different rides and
attractions. It is not only beautifully illustrated, it is
also a beautifully written account of a world famous amusement
park through the seasons.
Published by Blackpool
Pleasure Beach, and with an introduction by Geoffrey Thompson
OBE, the book follows on from previous successful publications
such as A Century of Fun and A
Hundred Years of Fun.
