BITSoftheBEACH: Space Invader 2

Space Invader 2 opened on 10th April 2004.

The £1m revamp included a repainted blue outside, loud music, new scenery and brand new free flow cars from rollercoaster designers Kumback Coasters which make for a much more comfortable and smoother ride.

As at 13/4/04 (BITSoftheBEACH's first ride) there were only 4 cars running, throughput was very slow and the queuing area was still causing people problems. (Beware if you suffer from claustrophobia and the ride is busy...)

The ride itself is much smoother than the original although this was ruined by the car slowing down at least three times on its run.

Congratulations however to the management for upgrading the safety aspect and keeping the ride at the park. Note that the minimum ride height as at 17/4/04 is 46''/117cms and not 52''/132cms as listed on ride leaflets given out by the park.

The original ride (pictured below) was opened by Colin Baker ('Dr Who') in 1984.

It was manufactured by Zierer and cost £1m to build at that time.

Overall it has 1,253 feet of track and climbs inside the "mountain" to a height of 72 feet.

Other rides to pass through the mountain are the Zipper Dipper and Thor's Turnpike.

ALL DAY WRISTBAND ACCEPTED

SEPARATE 2004 TICKET PRICE: 4
